What: Germany Hill Planning Meeting
When: 6PM May 8th
Where: Hillside Recreation Center

Attendees will be asked to talk about their favorite places, share their knowledge of the history of the area, and discuss how and why they use the publicspaces in the neighborhood.

UPenn Mitzvah Day volunteers invade Manayunk for 2nd year in a row.

WooHoooo! … this is no April Fools joke — Check out these numbers from our clean-up:

56 total volunteers involved
187 volunteer hours (includes set-up and break down)
37 trash bags, a 6’x14’x4’ pile of debris, 3 re-cycle cans fill of old bottles & cans
4 yards of compost and mulch distributed
Fountain Street Steps completely cleaned, weeded, trimmed, mulched & broom swept.
Zero injuries

Our second annual Mitzvah Day clean-up at The Fountain Street Steps was an enormous success. Our Steps look amazing and we are now ready for our big planting on ‘Love Your Park Day’ – May12th. Hope to see you there.

April 14th – Mayors Spring Cleanup (9AM-1PM)
The Schuylkill Project has organized and end-to-end canal cleanup and cleanups on various sets of steps in the neighborhood including Roxborough Ave Steps, Dupont, Boone and Krams Steps.

April 21st – Tree Tenders Spring Planting

May 5th – Umbria Street Neighbors Flea Market (proceeds from this fundraiser are used to buy the plants for the Fountain Street Steps!)

May 12th – Love Your Park (9AM-1PM) Planting at Fountain Street Steps and mulching and cleanup at Germany Hill

As you may have heard at Ridge Park Civic Association’s recent general membership meeting, Councilman Curtis Jones has authored a bill requesting the striking of Cinnaminson Street between Mansion Street and Smick Street. This is the reverse of what happened four years ago, when Councilwoman Carol Ann Campbell tried to legally open Cinnaminson Street in order to pave the way for development of Germany Hill.

Councilman Jones’ bill will come up for review by City Council’s Streets Committee at a hearing to be held on Thursday, March 15, beginning at 3PM. The hearing will take place in Room 400, City Hall. We need to show as much support as we can for this bill, and we are asking as many of you as possible to attend the hearing. Should you wish to testify at the hearing, you may do so, but what is most important is your presence. We need to pack the room, like we did four years ago, to make it clear to the Streets Committee that preserving Germany Hill is very important to us.
Councilman Jones stood with us to prevent the opening of Cinnaminson Street four years ago, and we must stand with him now in support of his efforts to strike the street permanently.

Join Ivy Ridge Green for a day of service Monday, January 16, 9:30am – 1:30pm

We plan to do vine cutting and invasive plant and debris removal. Meet at Fountain Street and Umbria, from there we will split into groups and work at the Ivy Ridge Trail, the Manayunk Canal Towpath, Germany Hilland the Roxborough Reservoir.
